If your child is an avid gymnast, skateboarder, BMX rider, or pro scooter rider, Woodward Camp in Pennsylvania will be a perfect summer camp experience. The staff is enthusiastic and you can tell they want to be there, working with the kids. Sleeping accommodations are very rustic and spartan so don't expect anything fancy. The facilities for all the sports, however, are state-of-the-art. The camp also has other offerings and other campuses. Their website will have all the information.
SUPER PRICEY! My son loves to skate so I worked a parttime job for 8 months to come up with the money! My son said it was worth it! He enjoyed every moment at camp!
🛹 only:
Since I first saw it in skate videos in the 1990s, wanted nothing more than to go and skate Woodward. Well, 30 years later my kid goes and has the time.of her life. Sweet!
Great counselors, obviously amazing parks, just phantastic.
The pros were super approachable and helpful too and her skill level and confidence went way up. What a blast!
👉The only feedback for improvement... Please do something about the food situation. Get some fresh stuff there for the young athletes not just fruit loops and burgers. My kid totally had to detox and most returning kids brought their own food supply knowing how there wasn't going to be a fruit or salad in sight.
My son stayed for a week of Camp. He was very insecure for the 1st couple of days, I had to contact the camp to tell them what was going on, and ask them to reach out to him, I shouldn't have had to do that from 1000 miles away, they're right there with him and should know he isn't participating. After a little help he was fine.
I was disappointed (as was he) that he wasn't allowed to try out other areas of the park, he had to stick to JUST his camp area. He wanted to try out the Par Core and is actively in Gymnastics and would have loved to experience the gym for a few hours. For the high cost of the camp, I was definitely let down. I wouldn't recommend personally, nor would I choose to send my son again.
Sick parks and trails, only wish it’s be open to the public more often just for a day or a few hours (where you don’t have to reserve a cabin and all for a few days). Other then that though it’s the absolute dream.Probably best skatepark complex on the east coast and one of the best in the country for sure.
My child was involved in a negative incident in the bunk while at camp. I contacted the camp office multiple times asking for a member of leadership to please call me to discuss. I was assured someone would reach out and no one ever did. I have significant concerns about both supervision of campers and camp leadership at Woodward. Engaging with families is not a priority. It is huge concern particularly at a sleep away camp. Beware.
My son went here last year for a week. He loved it. He loved it so much he wanted to come all summer long. However, that would be quite expensive we just dropped him off for a three week stent. He is ecstatic. He’s going there for BMX. One of the great things about this camp is they have ex Olympians in the sports come and help coach and teach. My girls that are much older went to this camp many years ago for gymnastics they too loved this camp and have many fond memories. One area that they could do better is evening activities. Make it a little bit more camp like with community bonfire or something. They also need to have the cafeteria open for an evening snack. They only have it open for breakfast lunch and dinner. Especially for the younger kids they need a snack before bed. Most people eat after 5 o’clock.
My son attended two weeks. He loved it. The facilities are amazing and all the staff was nice. All the kids in his cabin were nice and he made some good friends. He will go back next year.
